There is growing concern and experts are now urging caution in AI as the speed of development in AI had outpaced the people’s projections. University of Southern California and Indiana University USC says quite a large proportion of ‘likes; and ‘retweets’ and ‘followers’ that register on Twitter account are possibly not originating from human twitter account holders but instead from at least 48 million Twitter accounts which are bots .
Bots are applications which perform automated tasks, which could be simply setting alarms or giving weather reports o warnings of natural disasters, disseminating news and and other automated activity viewed in some circles as beneficial to human society.
But the USC report also points to the downside of bots, saying, some copy and display human behaviour and generate false support, promote illegal or terrorist propaganda and recruitment amongst a whole host of negative activity .
To many , the recent revelation by Elon Musk an early investor in DeepMind to stay on top of AI (Artificial Intelligence) growth , sounded like a far fetched warning with little or no prospect of becoming a reality as he actually claimed there could be ‘no stopping’ a centralized artificial intelligence because even if a ‘kill switch’ existed, it is likely that AI (Artificial Intelligence) would kill the kill switch’ holder first
Coming from a man of a person so involved for years in this research, it is of significance that, Elon Musk has for a long time warned the world or anyone who would care to listen , that the AI (Artificial Intelligence) technology built by humans had the potential to cause human destruction eventually.
In 2014 Google acquired DeepMind a project which Elon Musk invested in for several years warning that AI is not the robot;but a computer algorithm in the Net,’ therefore a robot is simply an end effector, just a series of sensors and actuators because AI is in the Net.
His opinion is we need to secure some sort of runaway algorithm, for the human AI collective to halt the runaway algorithm except that if a large, centralized AI decides, then we have no way of halting a real and pending doomsday scenario.
Elon Musk is not keen to actually have the kill switch in his possession in the event of something like a super powered AI, as, logically the first target for AI to exterminate would be a kill switch holder.
